Hello and welcome to my Gallery!
ARTIST STATEMENT:
My subject matter is nature. I am
fascinated by organic shapes and the ever-changing qualities of light.
Texture and light feature heavily in my work,
with the inspiration and the process of creating being just as important to me
as my finished pieces. I want people to experience the beauty I see, both vast
and fragile in the world around me.
Living in Colorado, I love immersing myself in
the great outdoors and finding inspiration there. I often photograph my travels
and document the emotions of a particular place or time for the inspiration of
new work.
My backstory:
Growing up in poverty in the rural Midwest, art was a way to pull away to a different world. I would take off into nature somewhere to create a world all my own. A child of domestic abuse, isolation, and difficult circumstance, I longed for connection and beauty, and sought to create it with my art. For me, it was a way to process and say something when the words just wouldn't come.
I pursued a Fine Art degree from a small liberal arts college in Iowa and poured myself into learning. Here I began to change in small ways, and met one of the most compassionate and kind humans and married him.
Now, years later, after two kids, much healing, multiple moves, personal growth and lots of adventures, I am so grateful for where this journey has taken me. Opening my own art gallery is deeply personal for me and a dream come true. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here.
Light is always calling me. Color, organic shape, and how they relate finds their way into my work on the regular. The beauty and brokenness of this world draws me, and human relationship is the subject of much of my drawings.
I use acrylic or oil on canvas or paper, with brush and palette knife. For poured paint methods I enjoy a torch, dryers, straws, and my hands! Drawings are typically art paper and charcoal/graphite.
Opening my own gallery has been an exciting journey and I can't wait to see where it takes me! A life long learner, I continue to add training and education yearly. I have had the opportunity over the years to sell my work locally in businesses, at shows and coffee shops. I have also taught and commissioned art and have owned and operated a photography business with my husband for 10 years before opening my gallery.
